As Plans Commence in New Jersey to Install the World's Most Powerful Offshore Wind Turbines, Baron Environmental is Brought in as an Environmental, Health & Safety Partner

July 15, 2021 -- Paulsboro, New Jersey As German large-scale pipe manufacturer EEW Group establishes its American manufacturing operations at the Paulsboro, New Jersey port, the NJ-based firm, Baron Environmental Associates, is brought in to lead efforts as an environmental, health & safety (EHS) partner. According to Lee Laurendeau, the CEO of EEW American Offshore Structures, the Paulsboro facility "will secure New Jersey’s position as the manufacturing epicenter of the emerging offshore wind industry. We partnered with Baron Environmental, the New Jersey leader in EHS consulting, to make the process simple and efficient." According to Brian Long, the President and CEO of Baron Environmental, "This partnership between EEW and Baron Environmental has many unique and positive aspects. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) permits that were secured by Baron Environmental and the operation of the Paulsboro site go hand-in-hand with Governor Murphy's targets for New Jersey - to generate 35% of its electricity from clean sources by 2025, 50% by 2030, and 100% by 2050." At the Paulsboro site, EEW will build the monopiles that serve as the foundation for the most powerful wind turbines on the market today, GE's Halide-X 12 MW. The monopiles are essentially massive pipes made of five-inch thick steel, 400 feet long, 40 feet in diameter, and 5,000,000 pounds each, weighing as much as 13 Boeing 747 airplanes, according to Laurendeau. The monopiles will be used at New Jersey's first offshore wind project delivering 1,100 MW of clean, reliable energy. Project Ocean Wind, located 15 miles off the coast of Southern New Jersey, will include more than 90 offshore wind turbines and produce enough electricity to power more than 500,000 homes. "Envision a paint booth the size of a football stadium. We were advised by some of our business partners that the monopile air permits for painting, sandblasting, welding, and metallization could take two years. We were impressed to see that Baron Environmental completed all work with the NJDEP within a few months," Laurendeau said. Air permits were approved in advance in December 2020, and the lease for the Paulsboro property was signed in January 2021. Accordingly, crews were able to take their first steps on the property to begin construction without any delay. The EEW and Baron Environmental partnership has positive effects for 1) wind power, 2) renewable energy, 3) manufacturing jobs, and 4) "Made in America". - - - - - - - - - - - About Baron Environmental Associates Baron Environmental Associates makes environmental, health & safety compliance simple, efficient, and stress-free for people within pharmaceutical manufacturing, life sciences, and other product manufacturing industries.
