NJDEP Air Permit Fee Increases

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) issued a proposal for public comment on air permit fee increases for the 2015-2019 5-year period on August 19, 2014. Under this proposal as written, permit fees for non-major facilities will be increasing between 44 – 100%. The fee for a General Permit (GP) that is currently $410 for a 5-year permit will increase to $820 for the same 5-year period. The fee for a RADIUS permit will increase 44% from the current fee schedule. Presently, the first source on a RADIUS application is $1,755 and each additional source is $410. The new fees would be $2,575 for the first source and $590 for each additional source. The Air Quality Permitting group at NJDEP indicated that they were asked by the Office of Management and Budget to propose a fee structure that would fully fund the minor source air program. The proposal would fund approximately 95% of the current costs to administer the program. Public comments were closed on October 17, 2014 with fee increases anticipated to take effect on March 1, 2015.
