Air Permits Required for Metal Handing and Recycling Facilities

As the NJDEP continues to focus on enhancing the quality of the air in the state, they have recently issued a Compliance Advisory regarding the need for Scrap Metal Handling and Recycling facilities to have the appropriate Air Permits. These facilities sometimes have visible and particulate emissions from the operation of scrap metal handling equipment. The air permits have requirements including a dust control plan to minimize visible emissions and particulate/dusts. Similar to other material handling / manufacturing operations, a preconstruction permit and operating certificate are required and these type operations are not eligible for a General Permit at this time.

For more details see the Compliance Advisory here.
